HTC EVO View 4G: Taps, touches, scribbles

HTC is somehow late to the party in the tablet market, but the Taiwanese company still tries to make a mark with their first foray into tablets: one such tablet being named the HTC EVO View 4G. Dubbed as the US version of the HTC Flyer, the EVO View 4G promises spectacular specs: a 7-inch capacitive touch screen, a 1.5 GHz Snapdragon processor, a front camera (5 megapixels) and a back camera (1.3 megapixel), and the evident 4G capability.

The EVO View 4G promises to give tablet users some thrill, thanks to a speedy 1.5 GHz processor – more than enough for handling intensive tasks such as word processing, gaming, and web browsing. According to the CNET site, the HTC Android device also comes with a mobile hot spot feature, allowing the tablet to provide Wi-Fi for up to eight devices. Lastly, the 4G capability of this devices promises speedy internet speeds for the HTC tablet.

            But among all features of this Android tablet, there’s the hard-to-miss feature that is the accompanying stylus. This accessory is HTC’s highlight, as the stylus allows the tablet user to scribble notes, highlight text, or make basic forms of art – the same way a brush could draw lines in a canvass. And aside from the stylus’ capability to scribble and highlight, this accessory is also capable of capturing audio while writing – a great feature for meetings and symposiums.

            However, there is a notable disappointment regarding to this HTC device. A short article from CNET had a hands-on with the HTC EVO View 4G, and there have been comments coming out after the hands-on. Sadly, the HTC tablet runs Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) – an operating software version not suitable for tablets. It would’ve been great if the Android device is shipped with Android 3.0 (Honeycomb), but alas, there’s the unpleasant appearance of Gingerbread with HTC Sense, the company’s user interface in their devices. As a consolation, it’s better than current tablets running 2.2 (Froyo).

            As for the issue concerning the stylus, it is a gamble for HTC to have that accessory, since it’s uncertain whether the add-on will convince potential buyers enough to purchase it. But the noted features looks enough to be a worthy incentive of getting this accessory. HTC hopes that the market will positively respond to the device based not only on the tablet, but also on the accessory and its capabilities.

            This HTC tablet device can be acquired through a contract from a cell carrier, namely Sprint. Or, if tying to a contract is not ideal, there’s the unlocked version of this device, which is the HTC Flyer.
